Are Teachers Overpaid?

Okay, I’m REALLY pissed off right now. I just spent 10 minutes typing up a posting, and this bastard blog erased it on me. Regardless, I will do my best to try to reproduce it, since I love you all.

For some unknown reason, this is what, my fourth posting in 4 days? Since before this I’d only put up one every couple of weeks, this is a bit strange. Not exactly sure why it’s happening. Maybe it’s because I finally have something interesting to say. Well, I think I’m interesting.

One of my coworkers happened to be on MSN.com and came across a very interesting article. ‘Oh look, here’s an article on teachers being overpaid’. More than enough to pique my interest, so I had a look. I agree with pretty well everything in the article, although I don’t think I would give teachers a 9/10 in terms of service to society. Granted, we’re important, but a lot of what we do could probably be self-taught or done by *ahem* parents. Given the opportunity, of course. However, I think you should all decide for yourself. Read it now! Here’s the link to the MSN.com article:

Are Teachers Overpaid?

I’m going to put a copy of the article up on my website I think, since I’m pretty sure that link will die at some point. Until then, I will leave you with saying that this article is for those of you who think teachers punch in at 8:00 and punch out at 3:00. Bite me, moron, wake up.

Boys of October

Well, it’s 11:30 at night and – holy crap – the curse of the Bambino is dead! I never thought I’d see the day when I WANTED the Red Sox to win, but – go Boston! Like I said at the beginning of the game: they needed either Damon or Ramirez to smarten up and have a big game, and Johnny came through far bigger than I expected. All I need now is for Houston to take game 7 and we can see Clemens pitch in Boston for the World Series. I love baseball :) G’night!

I need a Babelfish 2

A day at the movies…

So, I forgot to mention in my last post that I went to go see Hero this weekend. For the second time since I’ve been here, I’ve been screwed by foreign films. Y’know what’s difficult? Trying to watch a film in one language with subtitles in another, when neither are languages you speak. I really enjoyed the movie, but I’m sure I would’ve enjoyed it more if I could speak spanish better – as it was I was able to understand most of what was going on, but I’m sure there are subtleties that I just didn’t get. Of course, seeing as I wouldn’t have been hearing it anyway even if it was subtitled in english, I’m sure I would have missed some things regardless. One of the downsides of foreign films, I think – no matter how much you get from one, you likely miss something because the intricacies of the languages are different. Unfortunate – maybe a Babelfish would help.

Anapoima

Welcome to my new look page! This is how I spend a puente (holiday): I recreate my website. I’m such a geek!

Anyway, here’s the general update. A couple of weeks ago now, a group of us went to a place called Anapoima. Apparently there and some place in Turkey are considered by climatologists to have the best climate in the world. I’d have to agree, based on my little experience – it was beautiful. We spent most of the weekend laying around by the pool. Rough life :) If you want to see some pictures, go to my Colombia page in the menu on the left – there’s a link to my Anapoima photo album.

Next up is last weekend. Zak bought a house a couple of weeks ago, and he decided to have a housewarming party on Saturday. There ended up being about 50 people I would guess (including Piedad’s mom, which was great :) and everyone had a great time. Good thing they got vinyl flooring instead of carpet though, it would have been trashed the first time they had people over!

Finally, this past weekend (little) Nick had his 30th birthday. Some rugby buddies of his got together and rented a Chiva for the night. A Chiva is basically a party bus – it’s a bus with a big open back, seats line the outside, and there’s an open space in the middle. We load up the bus with drinks and drive around the city with loud music, drinks and dancing. It was a LOT of fun, even if it was crowded enough that you couldn’t move. Didn’t matter though, great time had by all!

Okay, I’ve done my duty. Now it’s yours – let’s hear from some of you! Leave comments whenever you want, I’d love to hear from you!

Please excuse the interruption

Due to some technical problems (I just moved my website host) things weren’t working properly with my blog for the past little while. I have several things to update y’all on, including a nice relaxing trip to a resort and a kickass housewarming party, so I’ll put that stuff up very soon. Sorry about the mess!
